ONE MAN FATALLY SHOT, ANOTHER ARRESTED- FIREARM SEIZED

One of a group of men who engaged a joint police/military team in a shoot-out at Reapers Road, Maverly, Kingston 20 yesterday was fatally shot and a firearm taken from him. One of his cronies was also arrested and placed into custody.

Dead is Dwayne Lewis, 19, otherwise called “Reds”, while in police custody is a 19-year-old man both of Reapers Road.

Information gleaned by the CCN is that about 2:40 p.m., the team was patrolling the community when they accosted a group of men who pulled guns and opened fire at them. The crime fighters return the fire and during an exchanged of bullets, Lewis was hit; a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver – serial number 285231 – containing four cartridges was taken from him. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Following a search of the area by the joint team, the 19-year-old man was found hiding in a section of a building. He was positively identified as one of the shooters and was subsequently arrested.

The Bureau of Special Investigations has commenced a probe.

POLICE SIFT FOR CLUES TO SOLVE GUN MURDER IN SECOND CITY

Sleuths attached to the Montego Bay CIB in St. James are now sifting for clues to solve the gun murder of a man at his home at Patterson Drive, Iron Shore in the parish yesterday.

Dead is 55-year-old, housing developer, Jeffery Fanning.

Information received by the CCN is that about 12:00 p.m., Mr. Fanning was sitting in his yard when he was pounced on and shot repeatedly by unknown assailant/s. He died on the spot. The police were called and on their arrival, they processed the crime scene and the body was removed to the morgue.

Detectives investigating are appealing to anyone who may have information about the killer/s or their whereabouts to contact the Montego Bay CIB at 684-9315, Crime Stop at 311, Kingfish at 811, police 119 emergency numbers or the nearest police station.

AUTO BODY REPAIR MAN SHOT DEAD AT RAYMAR ROAD

A 29-year-old auto body repairman was shot dead by a gunman at his work place at Raymar Road, Kingston 20 yesterday.

Dead is Clive Grant otherwise called “Garvey” of Bay Farm Road, Kingston 11.

The CCN is reporting that about 4:15 p.m., Grant was at his work place when he was approached by a man posing as a customer. Following a brief conversation, the man pulled a firearm from his waistband and shot him; then fled the area. Grant died on the spot. The police were called and they arrived and processed the crime scene and the body was removed to the morgue for post mortem.

The Constant Spring Police are investigating.

POLICE INVESTIGATE GUN SLAYING OF MAN

The Constant Spring Police in St. Andrew have commenced investigations into the gun slaying of 19-year-old Omar Wilson in his community at Manor Drive, Kingston 8 last night.

Information gleaned by the CCN is that about 11:30 p.m., Wilson was standing at a shop in the community when he was approached by three men armed with guns who shot him several times, killing him on the spot; they then fled the area. The police were called, the crime scene processed and the body removed to the morgue.

Investigation continues.

FIRE DESTROYS HOUSE IN CHRISTIANA

Fire believed to be caused by an electrical short circuit destroyed a two bedroom house at Saw Mill district, Christiana, Manchester yesterday. No one was injured in the incident.

Information received by the CCN is that about 12:30 p.m., residents saw fire coming from the building and called the police and the fire brigade. One unit from the Christiana Fire Department extinguished the blaze.

Loss is estimated at $2M and the house was not insured.

The Christiana Police are investigating.

NIGHT CLUB DAMAGED BY FIRE IN CLARENDON

Fire of unknown origin damaged sections of the Pleasure City night club at Hayes, Clarendon this morning.

Reports received by the CCN are that about 3:00 a.m., residents saw fire coming from the building and summoned the police and fire brigade. A unit from the May Pen Fire Department extinguished the blaze. No one was injured.

Loss estimated at $10M. The building was not insured.

The May Pen Police are investigating.

POLICE SEIZE AMMUNITION AT “BIG YARD”

The Constant Spring Police in St. Andrew seized a quantity of ammunition at “Big Yard”, Mannings Hill Road, Kingston 8 this morning.

The CCN is reporting that about 4:40 a.m., police on patrol in the area saw a group of men exiting “Big Yard”. The actions of the men aroused the suspicions of the officers and they were accosted. They however ran and escaped leaving behind a bag containing two M16 magazines, each loaded with thirty 5.56 cartridges.

Investigation continues.

JDF SOLDIER SHOT DEAD IN KINGSTON 20

A Jamaica Defence Force Private attached to the Military Training Wing, New Castle, St. Andrew was shot and killed by gunmen at a bus stop along Washington Boulevard, Kingston 20 this morning.

Dead is 23-year-old Tursha Lambert Lee of Morgans Pass, Clarendon.

Information received by the CCN is that about 6:55 a.m., Lee was at a bus stop when he was pounced upon by a group of men armed with guns. The hoodlums opened fire hitting him several times. He died on the spot. Investigators processed the scene and the body was removed to the morgue for post mortem.

The Duhaney Park CIB is investigating.

POLICE OFFICERS RETURN FROM PEACE-KEEPING MISSION IN SUDAN

Four members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) who will return from a United Nations Peace-Keeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan on Wednesday, February 10.

Deputy Superintendent Oberlin Smith-White, Woman Sergeant Nora Peters, Detective Sergeant Richard Mitchell and Detective Constable Martin Morgan will return off a two year sojourn which commenced January 16, 2008. They will return on American Airways flight scheduled to arrive at the Norman Manley International Airport at 12:20 p.m.


MAN’S BODY DISCOVERED IN ROCKFORT

The body of an unidentified man, believed to be in the mid 20s, was found at Windward Road, Rockfort, Kingston 2 yesterday.

It is of dark complexion, medium build and about 173 centimetres (5 feet 8 inches) long.

The CCN is reporting that about 10:25 a.m., residents made the discovery on a premises and called the police. Officers who went to the scene saw the body with its hands tied behind its back. It also had gunshot wounds. The scene was processed and it was removed to the morgue for post mortem and identification.

MAN SHOT DEAD

Dwight Pryce, 28, of Glen Drive, Kingston 8 was shot dead by gunmen in the Cassava Piece area of the community yesterday.

The CCN is reporting that about 1:00 p.m., Pryce was standing on a pathway when two men approached, brandished handguns and shot him repeatedly. He died on the spot. The police were called, the crime scene processed and his body removed to the morgue.

Constant Spring Police are investigating.


TEEN SHOT DEAD IN SHOOTOUT WITH COPS – FIREARM SEIZED

Nineteen-year-old Dwight Sterling otherwise called “Della” of Brown’s Lane, Kingston 11 was shot dead during a shootout with police in his community yesterday. An illegal firearm was taken from him in the aftermath.

Reports received by the CCN are that about 1:00 a.m., police officers were on an assignment in the area when the teen opened fire at them. The lawmen return the fire and he was shot. A Taurus 9mm pistol – serial number B57351 – with a magazine containing nine 9mm cartridges was taken from him. He was transported to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Bureau of Special Investigations is investigating.


MAN SHOT DEAD – ANOTHER INJURED

One man was shot dead and another shot and injured by gunmen at St. Johns Road, St. Catherine yesterday.

Dead is Alkirk Thompson, 33, of St. Johns Road while injured is a 40-year-old man.

Reports from the CCN’s Liaison Officer for St. Catherine North are that about 6:20 p.m., the two men were at a construction site when a black car drove up. Occupants of the vehicle alighted and opened gunfire hitting them before driving away. They were taken to hospital where Thompson was pronounced dead and the other man admitted in serious condition.

The St. Catherine North Homicide Unit is investigating.

WOMAN ARRESTED FOR FATALLY STABBING COMMON LAW-HUSBAND

A 35-year-old woman was arrested and taken into police custody after fatally stabbing her common law-husband at his home at Brenton Hill, Cheswick district, St. Thomas last night.

Dead is 43-year-old Sherman Little. The identity the woman is being with held pending further investigations.

Information received by the CCN is that about 8:00 p.m., the couple had a quarrel that escalated into a scuffle; during which the woman reportedly pulled a knife and stabbed Mr. Little. He was assisted to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The woman turned herself in to the police shortly after the incident.

The Morant Bay Police are investigating.

MAN ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF FIREARM AND AMMUNITION

A man was arrested and taken into custody after he was found in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition at Whitney Drive, Washington Gardens, Kingston 20, last night.

His name is being withheld to facilitate further investigation.

Reports received by CCN are that about 11:35 p.m., police on patrol in the area saw the man in a section of the community acting suspiciously. He was accosted and searched and a 9MM Vikings pistol – serial number 0544601030 – with a magazine containing ten 9MM cartridges was taken from him. He was subsequently arrested.

The Duhaney Park CIB is investigating.
