BSI PROBES FATAL SHOOTING IN RED HILLS
The Bureau of Special Investigations has commenced a probe into the fatal shooting of a man who reportedly opened fire at the police at Kirkland Heights, Red Hills, St. Andrew last night.
Dead is Rohan Silvera, 23, of Kirkland Heights.
Reports received by the CCN are that about 9:15 p.m., a police team responded to calls that persons were being held hostage at a home at Mount Salus Road. Officers responded and on reaching the neighbouring community of Kirkland Heights, they saw and accosted two men. The men reportedly pulled guns and opened fire at the police and a gun battle ensued. Silvera was later found suffering from gunshot wounds and clutching a .45 pistol – serial number AE85484CAT10399 – with ten .45 cartridges. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The weapon was seized and sent to the forensic laboratory for ballistic testing.
Investigations continue.
POLICE INVESTIGATE MAN’S DEATH
A 37-year-old man was shot and killed by an unknown assailant on Old Hope Road, Kingston 5 yesterday.
Dead is Wayne Stewart otherwise called “Steve” of Swallowfield Road, Kingston 5.
Reports from the CCN are that about 1:30 p.m., Stewart was walking along Old Hope Road near Old Henry Lane, when he was approached by a man armed with a gun. The gunman shot him repeatedly, before escaping. The police were alerted and investigators responded and processed the crime scene. Stewart’s body was removed to the morgue for postmortem.
